2022’s Top 100 LA Comics to Watch (80-61)

80. Lou Hinkel

Reeta, I don’t know if you’re reading this like last time, but Lou Hinkel has been making noise all over LA with his unique voice and stylistically laugh-out-loud brand of comedy. You should tell Cyrus.

79. Jared Levin

I was going to go surfing with a bunch of the dudes from M.i.’s Westside Comedy Theater and they’re being real dicks, asking me questions like have I ever taken “surf lessons” before. I was like how hard can it be and they still won’t let me go surfing with them. Anyways, not only is Jared funny, but he also gives surf lessons so he could be the solution to one of my many problems.

78. Will Hines

I got to kick it with one of the funniest people I know, UCB veteran Will Hines at a That Dog show. We both agree, That Dog is the most underrated band of the nineties by miles. Retreat From The Sun is an absolute gem of a record just like how UCB veteran Will Hines is an absolute gem of a person. Congratulations Will. Let’s do a Harold sometime.

77. Dave Chappelle

I was one of a lucky few who got to see Mr. Chappelle when he came to Lab Work. Not only was he super cool to all of the comedians, but he is also on his way to an enviable career in 2022. Late night spot material for sure.

75. Michael Schirtzer

Back in 2019, Michael Schirtzer was kind of a dick to me and it made me feel bad. However, we’ve since squashed our beef. Now I am looking forward to what 2022 has in store for this hilarious transplant from Canada, the land of poutine and Propagandhi.

71. Arielle Solomon

When I had COVID, Arielle delivered me king crab bisque in a bread bowl from the Drunken Crab on Sherman Way when literally only one other person would. Shit’s good but not as good as deviled eggs. I have a bit about deviled eggs which you can watch here.

68. Ryan Talmo

Ryan “Valley Jesus” Talmo turned me on to Melody’s Mexican Kitchen in Reseda. It’s a bit of a drive, but they make one damned good carne asada platter. Good guy to know.

64. Ric Rosario

He’s everyone’s favorite sound guy in The Lab. That said, I wish he would stop playing me up to “The Impression That I Get” by The Mighty Mighty Bosstones. He also plays me off to “Brain On Ska” by Mustard Plug. You mention Mustard Plug in a bit ONE TIME and all of the sudden you’re the ska comic. I am not the ska comic. I have depth. Ska does not. Funny guy though. Also, I saw his band Mindfree play at The Viper room. They were cool.

63. Travis Clyburn

I saw this guy for the first time in like 18 months on a show we had guest spots on. I definitely rubbed him the wrong way when I asked him if he had gotten rounder since the last time I saw him. Travis is a good man for putting up with my bullshit.

61. Scott Schnurr

Not only is M.i.’s Westside Comedy Theater favorite, Scott Schnurr undeniably funny, but he also gave one of his kidneys to his mom. That definitely lands him the #61 spot. Who the hell could rank higher than a man who performed life’s second most selfless act next to motherhood? Click next find out.
